Calgary Libraries Your Kids Will Love
A helicopter. A fire truck. A place to play. Calgary libraries give little explorers plenty to discover, alongside their next favourite book.
These three libraries already listed on LekkerKids offer free spaces to play, explore and read together. Start with your child's interests, choose a library, then use our place listings to plan your visit.
The play spaces are free. Travel, parking and any food you buy can still add to the cost. These are shared library spaces where a parent or caregiver stays with the children.

Which library is your next stop?
- For a fire-truck fan: Fish Creek Library β Engine 23 and imaginative play.
- For an aircraft fan: Seton Library β the Alouette III helicopter in its Early Learning Centre.
- For a downtown outing: Central Library β full-body play and books in one stop.
Start with your child's interests, then compare the journey. A nearby library can make a short outing easier, while a special feature can give you a reason to explore a different part of Calgary.
1. Fish Creek Library: a real fire truck

Where: 11161 Bonaventure Drive SE.
The draw: A retired Calgary Fire Department truck inside the library.
Engine 23 is on the second floor, between the Early Learning Centre and the Questionarium. The Library describes the experience for ages 0β12, with opportunities to explore switches and levers, try firefighter role play and discover fire-safety activities. There is also an accessible cab experience.
For a child who loves vehicles, this gives the visit a clear purpose. Start with the truck, then choose a firefighter book to read together. Follow the signs and staff guidance for the different activities; a firefighter storytime is a scheduled program, so do not assume one will be running when you arrive.

2. Seton Library: a helicopter in a library

Where: 4995 Market Street SE.
The draw: An Alouette III helicopter in the Hopewell Early Learning Centre.
Calgary Public Library lists Seton's helicopter, provided courtesy of the Hangar Flight Museum, among its distinctive early learning spaces. It gives families an aircraft-themed reason to explore the children's area, alongside the library's books and learning activities.
Make it a small adventure: ask your child where they would fly, look for a book about aircraft, then settle down for a story. The play features are shared with other families, so allow time to take turns and check what is accessible on the day. It is a library play experience; no flight or ride is involved.
Seton sits in southeast Calgary. If it is a long drive for your family, compare it with a nearer library before committing to the trip.

3. Central Library: play first, story next

Where: 800 3 Street SE.
The draw: The Early Learning Centre's full-body play focus.
Central is another option for a day that needs movement, books and time together. The Library includes it in its network of free Early Learning Centres, which support learning through play, talking, singing, reading and writing.
Keep the visit simple: explore the children's space, let your child pick a book, and read it together before leaving. If your child enjoys a more structured activity, check the Library's program listings separately for age guidance, times and registration requirements.
A free play space does not necessarily mean a free journey. Check the cost and practicality of parking or transit before choosing a downtown trip.

Before you leave home
- Check today's hours and holiday closures. Use the official location links above. All three currently list Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, 2026, as closed.
- Stay with your children. These are family visits, not drop-off childcare. Caregivers are responsible for supervision.
- Separate the space from the program. Visiting a play space is different from attending a scheduled storytime or workshop. Check each program's booking details.
- Plan for shared spaces. Features, capacity and availability can change; follow staff guidance and give other families a turn.
Plan your library adventure
Find everything you need on LekkerKids: opening hours, addresses, directions, library information and links to official updates. Go to Activities β Browse Places β Indoor β Libraries to explore the library list.
Switch between the list and map to compare locations. Each library card shows today's opening hours where available; open its details for directions and the official website. Check the official location page for holiday closures and any changes before leaving.
If a library is not the right fit today, Indoor also lets you explore play centres and pools. Those can have admission fees, so check the individual listing. For something happening on a particular day, use the separate Family Events page and its day or weekend controls.
