Looking to keep the kids learning and active this summer without spending a dollar? Here are three free programs available in Calgary right now.

🏊 World's Largest Swimming Lesson — June 25

Cost: FREE
Date: Thursday, June 25, 2026
Ages: 3 years and older

Swimmers around the world take the same beginner lesson simultaneously — all focused on water safety and drowning prevention. Calgary is hosting at four aquatic centres:
• Acadia Aquatic Centre
• Bob Bahan Aquatic Centre
• Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic Centre
• Thornhill Aquatic Centre

⚽ Servus Credit Union Free Soccer Friday

Cost: FREE (drop-in)
When: First three Fridays of each month, March through November
Ages: Youth of all ages and abilities — no experience needed

Calgary Minor Soccer Association runs free, unstructured soccer sessions at three locations across the city (NW, NE, and SW). Just show up and play — no coaches, no set matches, just kids being active and making friends. Parents complete a one-time online waiver before their child's first visit. Children under 6 may have one parent on the field for support.

📚 Calgary Public Library Free Kids Programs

Cost: FREE
When: Year-round at branches across the city
Ages: Babies through kids 10+

The Calgary Public Library runs dozens of free drop-in and registered programs for children at every stage — from baby singalongs to numeracy workshops to maker activities. A few highlights:
• 1-2-3: Count With Me — Numeracy introduction through rhymes, songs, and active play (ages 2–3)
• Babies & Books — Songs and rhymes for the very youngest library fans
• Storytime — Picture books, puppets, and crafts at branches city-wide
